the great outdoors

Sunnydene Country Park is located in the East Riding of Yorkshire amongst a mostly rural open area that broadly follows the northern bank of the River Humber. It is located approximately 12 miles west of the city of Hull, and close to the towns and villages of Brough, South Cave and Elloughton. The area retains its strong heritage and extensive historical connections.

Brough (Roman settlement of Peturia) is well known for its associations with BAE (British Aerospace Systems). Less well known perhaps are Brough’s connections with the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin, who boarded at the town’s Ferry Boat Inn where he was finally apprehended. The nearby village of South Cave also claims significant historical connections through the great grandfather of George Washington. He lived there before emigrating to America to settle in 1657!
